The Oude Singel is a canal in the old city centre of Leiden. Most buildings are governmental monuments, and like the Oude Singel number 6 also monumental on the inside. The history of the current building goes back to the 16th century. Anno 2005 Mirck Architecture was asked to renovate the building to accomodate two apartments and five student units.

Mirck Architecture managed to bring back the original beam structure with wooden ornaments and re-use the original entrance frame at the staircase. The interior is upgraded to the new standard and can easily be upgraded in the future. The building is ready for another century or five.
