Houses are for living, not for making money. This tender proposal involves a concept that is based on a cooperative form and on the principles of shared use and management and ignores market forces. By bringing together sustainable homes, communal living, social contact and solidarity, they contribute to a sustainable, inclusive and fair society. Residents have ownership and control, and work together to create a pleasant living environment.
Key features of our concept:
– Being part of a community
– Building and maintaining meaningful relationships
– Ownership
The target groups for this proposal are young people and seniors. The design suggests a community living concept where the two groups live together, either in mixed or in separate but interconnected groups under the same roof. Each floor forms one cohabitation unit with a shared kitchen and living room and relatively small independent rooms.
The building volume consists of a superstructure where the residential program takes place, expressed by a horizontal layering referencing the stacking of the cohabitation units on each floor, supported on top of a plinth marked by large vertical columns. Within the plinth there is an outdoor colonnade on the square side, indoor space for a café or a restaurant, a bicycle workshop, and an overground parking carousel. Placing the parking overground gives the building more possibilities to adapt the program in the future, as well as saves a lot of energy and concrete.
The ground floor has a generous amount of open glass facades to show what happens in the building and invite people to go inside. There are also two terraces around the open corners to the north and southwest to further connect the interior space to the outside.
The main load-bearing structure is made of wood with the exception of the foundation and first floor. Biobased and recycled materials are used throughout the building. The building structure is remountable and the layout adaptable. In addition, nature-inclusive construction will be implemented.
