Campus housing

North Holland - 2026

An inner-city business park in North Holland will be transformed into a campus in the coming decades. Part of the program includes housing, schools and supporting functions. Mirck Architecture is designing over 200 compact apartments with facilities in the plinth.

One key feature of the campus is its many routes, from large avenues to small alleyways. Mirck’s design consists of multiple building volumes, which together form and connect varied outdoor spaces. On the ground floor facilities such as catering and businesses form a lively social environment. On the upper floors, galleries and balconies facilitate interaction between inhabitants.

The buildings are 5 to 7 stories high with studio apartments for young professionals, topped with partially accessible green roofs. The structure of the building is made mostly out of wood. The wooden structure remains largely visible, including the ceilings inside and the load-bearing façade structure outside.

The first three building volumes will be connected with footbridges, which strengthen the contact between the building sections and with the routing downstairs. Each building volume will have its own façade finish within the wooden structure. The design can easily be extended to the surrounding plots, fitting well into the urban development strategy.
